This week we had the privilege of being joined by our City Manager, Fidel Maltez, and old friend and Deputy City Manager, Michael Mason, who joined us at our in person meeting on Tuesday to talk about their vision for the City, and how we as a service club and join with our friends and neighbors to make #chelseastrong
Kit is a friend who is one of the reasons why we need to consider donating blood to our Blood Drive on April 23rd.
Every month, Kit needs a blood transfusion to stay alive.
The 2-year-old has Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a rare genetic blood disorder that, if untreated, prevents blood from delivering oxygen through the body. While it has been a devastating diagnosis for Kit’s parents, they’re grateful for the specialized care she receives and are constantly amazed that people they will never meet are donating blood for her.
“There’s no substitute for donor blood,” Kit’s mom, Molly, says. “It’s easy to overlook that when you donate blood, you save lives. Donors are literally saving my child’s life. There’s no way around it: This is what Kit needs to be alive.”
We are so excited to introduce you all to the Big Sister Association.
Here is a little more about them.
Their mission is to ignite girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development. Ultimately, their vision is to create a mentor-rich community in which every girl has access to the individual nurturing, guidance, and support she needs to become a confident, competent and caring adult. There’s is a national model for gender-intentional mentoring for girls which can be replicated in other mentoring programs.
They believe that all children can benefit from the care and guidance of an adult mentor and, that when girls’ unique needs are addressed, they thrive with increased confidence, improved relationships and the ability to achieve their individual goals. They do all of this as a part of a network of 250 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America agencies, and they are the ONLY affiliate solely serving girls. (GIRL POWER!)
